International Arabian Leopard Day
Working together with its partners, Catmosphere curated the declaration of an annual awareness day for the Arabian Leopard to act as an international platform for conservation efforts. The day was first recognized in Saudi Arabia, and subsequently internationally with the passing of a resolution by the United Nations.
To bolster the formidable conservation efforts that are underway to save the Arabian Leopard from extinction, Catmosphere pushed for the recognition of an awareness day for the Arabian Leopard.
In 2022 the first success was achieved when Saudi’s Council of Ministers declared that 10th February would henceforth be the Kingdom’s National Day of the Arabian Leopard.
Building on this success, Catmosphere proceeded to build support for international recognition. Working with the Saudi Arabian Mission to the United Nations, in 2023 these efforts were rewarded as the United Nations proclaimed that, commencing from 2024 onwards, 10th February will henceforth be recognized as the International Day of the Arabian Leopard.
This is the first such recognition not only for a sub-species but also for a mammal and a Big Cat. It is also the first time that the United Nations adopted a Saudi led resolution for an awareness day.
Arabian Leopard Image Projections
To celebrate the Day of the Arabian Leopard, its enigmatic image was projected onto the side of noteworthy landmarks in Saudi Arabia and around the world. In 2022 this included Elephant Rock in AlUla as well as the Burj Al Arab skyscraper in Dubai. In 2023 this reach was extended to the iconic screens of London’s Piccadilly Circus.
Arabian Leopard International Campaign
To encourage participation in the celebration of the inaugural International Day of the Arabian Leopard on 10th February 2024, Catmosphere produced a campaign featuring an Arabian Leopard mask, which was rapidly adopted as the visual emblem of the day by many participants around the world.
