WAVE
Founded by Her Royal Highness Princess Reema Bandar Al-Saud, WAVE is Catmosphere’s collective action platform dedicated to restoring a thriving ocean by 2050, powered by Future Investment Initiative (FII) Institute, and in partnership with the Ministry of Energy.
WAVE strives towards the ambitious yet attainable goal of ocean regeneration within a human generation.
The ocean is vital to the health of our planet, the global economy, and our collective wellbeing.
In recent times the ocean has been subjected to extreme, human-driven changes; from increased temperatures and rising sea levels to marine acidification and oxygen depletion. These changes take a toll on the ocean’s delicate ecosystems, negatively impacting its rich biodiversity.
WAVE seeks to accelerate regenerative ocean action globally by harnessing data-led insights, sparking global awareness and engagement, catalyzing bluetech innovation, and advancing ocean-centric thought leadership.
WAVE Priorities
- The reduction of ocean pollution.
- The restoration of marine and coastal ecosystems.
- The sustainable management of ocean resources.
- The advancement of ocean-based climate solutions.
- The resilience of coastal communities.

Programs
WAVE develops programs that work towards the goal of a thriving ocean by 2050, collaborating with partners and the wider ecosystem to stimulate ocean regeneration.
We believe in the power of innovation as an essential element towards transforming our relationship with the ocean. To help unlock new potential we support frameworks that help bring new ideas to market. In partnership with Tonomus, Project71 is a venture competition to catalyze blue tech innovation around the globe which culminated with three winners selected to join the Tononmus Venture Studio.

A similar model has seen a partnership with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Economy and Planning, Uplink and the Friends of Ocean Action, for the Regenerative Blue Economy Challenge, a call for visionary solutions applying the best of science and engineering to deep ocean challenges. Winners gain exclusive networking opportunities and tap into a high-level network of ocean champions, benefting from increased visibility and tailored support that can help them scale.
Ocean Central is WAVE’s Insights and Innovation open data platform. The platform is projected to act as a knowledge hub and “mission control” to guide global efforts in ocean regeneration. For the development of the platform, WAVE has engaged Ode, a collective who work exclusively on projects that drive change to address environmental challenges.
Thought Leadership
WAVE uses its position to advance the cause of ocean regeneration, participating in forums that stimulate new partnerships, innovation, thought advancement, and engagement with an array of stakeholders, from members of the public to leaders in the private and public sectors.
Wave launched at FII7 in Riyadh in 2023, where H.R.H. Princess Reema Bandar Al-Saud moderated a session on “The Ocean and the Bottom Line”, focusing on how global entities can capitalize on the potential of ocean resources in a manner that benefits both the planet’s ecosystems and financial bottom line.
WAVE also participated at Leap in 2024, the world’s most attended tech event, promoting ocean innovation with a keynote, and presenting its partner network as a model of how to engage diverse sectors to stimulate collaborative solutions that speak to the heart of issues. WAVE also presented at the gala of the E1 electric boat racing series in Jeddah and engaged in workshops with representatives of E1 cities to discuss the important role coastal cities can play in ocean regeneration.

Ecosystem Outreach

WAVE connects with major ocean stakeholders at global and regional conferences. We use these opportunities to expand our network and connect with organizations with whom we can collaborate on activities to catalyze ocean regeneration.
Recent conferences where we have spoken or engaged include the World Economic Forum, World Ocean Summit, Africa Ocean Summit, Our Ocean Conference, and the Special Meeting on Global Collaboration, Growth and Energy for Development.
